COSMO: What I Learned In May 2011

Hayley Williams: Corn Dog of Revenge I'm not super familiar with Paramore, or by proxy, lead singer Hayley Williams, but this Cosmo feature let me learn that I probably didn't have to read this article to know what kind of girl she is. She's alternative. She's punk. She's weird. She's funky. Hayley says in high school she was picked on, surprise, surprise. But she eventually got sweet revenge in the form of a corn dog.
"We were on tour and pulled up to a Sonic to grab some food, and this girl rolls up on roller skates to take our order. It was mean girl number one. I'm with my band, feeling cocky, and I go, 'Yup, give me a corn dog!' It was the best feeling ever."
Side Note: I probably would've added a "bitch" to my order. Isn't that always how the story goes? Hayley goes on to talk about how she rejected the "girl" inside of her by not showering, not shaving and not wearing makeup. Again, more surprises. She talks about the razor and "shave me" tattoo she got on her ankle.
"I got this because we'd be on tour and I wouldn't shave for weeks, and the guys would roll up my pants and write Shave Me. Eventually, I tattooed it on as a little reminder."
So she let men tear at her clothing, defile her body and then branded herself with the very words they were using to oppress her? She's a super feminist! To be honest, this article was really boring. There were no eye-opening moments, no hints of a feminist manifesto, just an orange haired tomboy at a vegetarian restaurant talking about how "alternative" she is because she doesn't carry a purse. Where the fuck are you going to put your razor blades and jar full of tears? BORING!
