Porn: Sexy Racism - Tues, Aug 17 Gail Dines has a new book out called Pornland and in it she takes aim at the porn industry for being racist. There's been a lot of backlash coming at Dines, mostly from the porn industry, defending the diversity that the nudey film bizz offers. Jezebel offers Dines' point,

In the Pornland chapter titled "Racy Sex, Sexy Racism!" Dines writes that women of color are generally relegated to gonzo–a porn genre lacking any plot–which provides little glamour, security or status. According to Dines, porn racializes the bodies and sexual behavior of the performer with lines like "Saxxx tried to clean herself up [but] she was still a low-down dirty ghetto ho! So I rammed her."

Can we just go back to that example title for a sec? "Saxxx tried to clean herself up [but] she was still a low-down dirty ghetto ho! So I rammed her." Why are there 3 xs on Saxxx? Why is the but in brackets? Why are both sentences fragments?! I suggest the porn industry work on spelling and grammar and then try to get into the heavier issue of race. Just kidding, I do think both points are valid. But like in any industry minorities (and women) are generally marginalized. However, the porn industry is unique because it is the one industry in which women can demand more money than men and the racial diversity is certainly more prevalent than in feature films. It might take a while before porn is a fully integrated and viable source of entertainment, but for now I guess it will just have to settle with being the highest grossing film genre ever! Via Jezebel
