A few weeks away from The 83rd Annual Academy Awards, set to air on Sunday, February 27th at 8/9c. And here I am, over 10 movies deep and overwhelmingly happy with the turnaround from last year's shit-tastic movie turnout. I would just like to take a moment to thank the producers, directors and writers of the world for stepping it up. We all took a hit having to deal with fuckingAvatar (it's one word) last year and I'm just glad that we won't have to go through that again... until the sequel comes out that is... but if all goes according to plan, James Cameron should be walking into my net trap in 3..2..1 Anyway... here are my Oscar Predictions! I thought long and hard about them, so I hope you appreciate all the work I put into this... even though I know you won't! Follow hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco into the land of the unknown! The 83rd Annual Academy Awards Predictions MissBleecker Style!!! The Big Five Actor in a Leading Role Javier Bardem in “Biutiful” Jeff Bridges in “True Grit” Jesse Eisenberg in “The Social Network” Colin Firth in “The King's Speech” James Franco in “127 Hours” My Prediction: While I did l<3ve Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Satan I'm going to have to go with the favorite (and only man whose name does not begin with a "J") in this category, Colin Firth. It's about time Colin got some recognition and there's no better way to win an award than stuttering, cursing like a sailor and filling your mouth with balls! Colin will and should win, but that was a give in... Actress in a Leading Role Annette Bening in “The Kids Are All Right” Nicole Kidman in “Rabbit Hole” Jennifer Lawrence in “Winter's Bone” Natalie Portman in “Black Swan” Michelle Williams in “Blue Valentine” My Choice: I should say that Annette Bening is my role model for life, but I don't think she should win. I'm sure Nicole Kidman does a great job of trying to make her face emote, but she shouldn't win. However, Jenny Lawrence was awesome at getting her face kicked in and Michelle Williams did an excellent job at faking it, and I would be happy if either of these bitches won... but they won't. My Prediction: Natalie Portman will win (even though she shouldn't.) But she's having a baby and she's taking time off acting so I guess she should get a prize. Also, she's engaged to the ballerino from "Black Swan," not married, not sure if this means the Oscars Curse doesn't apply to her or not. Either way, I don't see their relationship lasting very long. I mean, he's French for crying out loud! Writing (Adapted Screenplay) “127 Hours” “The Social Network” “Toy Story 3” “True Grit” “Winter's Bone” My Prediction: Aaron Sorkin for "The Social Network," that's it, wrap it up, it was beautiful. I would literally trade my first born child to be able to write as well as this man. Rumpelstiltskin, where you at? Writing (Original Screenplay) “Another Year” “The Fighter” “Inception” “The Kids Are All Right” “The King's Speech” My Choice: As a would-be screenwriter I knows that there's a lot more that goes into great writing than dialogue and I'm sorry but "Inception" was just yummy. The concept, the storylines, the detail that went into that script was impeccable, and while the characters were a wee bit underdeveloped, they weren't based on real people and who really cares about character arc when you're 5 layers down? Am I right? My Prediction: "The King's Speech." Whatever. Directing “Black Swan” Darren Aronofsky “The Fighter” David O. Russell “The King's Speech” Tom Hooper “The Social Network” David Fincher “True Grit” Joel Coen and Ethan Coen My Choice: I'm still really upset that Chrissy Nolan wasn't nominated. 🙁 My Prediction: David Fincher for "The Social Network." No one else really has a chance. Best Picture “Black Swan” “The Fighter” “Inception” “The Kids Are All Right” “The King's Speech” “127 Hours” “The Social Network” “Toy Story 3” “True Grit” “Winter's Bone" My Prediction: Okay here's where things get interesting. A lot of these awards are very predictable and if the Crash fiasco of 2006 taught us anything, it's that the Oscars do not like to be considered predictable. So I'm gonna break it down for you right now! "Black Swan," too dark and leaves you with a bad taste of "huh?" in your mouth. "The Fighter" while good, is just another boxing movie that isn't "Raging Bull." "Inception," too conceptual and apparently the Academy hates Christopher Nolan. "The Kids Are All Right," too funny and lesbian-y. "127 Hours," HA! "Toy Story 3," it's animated. "True Grit," it's a western and a re-make. "Winter's Bone," let's face it, the Academy was just throwing the indie film a bone (pun intended). Now that leaves me with two, The Globes sided with "The Social Network" while SAG picked "The King's Speech." What the Academy usually does is award best picture to the best screenplay and best director winner, but as my predictions say, screenplay is split since the films are in different writing categories. David Fincher would win over Tom Hooper any day because he's just a better director, so it leaves me a little split. I do believe the safe choice would be "The King's Speech," however, I'm not one to play it safe and I'm willing to take a gamble and predict "The Social Network" as the winner. The Oscars are trying to reach to a younger audience this year, with hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco and I think they're going to side with the younger, more popular choice in "The Social Network." Jump for other notable categories predictions!!! Other Notable Categories Actor in a Supporting Role Christian Bale in “The Fighter” John Hawkes in “Winter's Bone” Jeremy Renner in “The Town” Mark Ruffalo in “The Kids Are All Right” Geoffrey Rush in “The King's Speech” My Prediction: Christian Bale obviously. Give that crazy Welshman a fucking Oscar! Actress in a Supporting Role Amy Adams in “The Fighter” Helena Bonham Carter in “The King's Speech” Melissa Leo in “The Fighter” Hailee Steinfeld in “True Grit” Jacki Weaver in “Animal Kingdom” My Prediction: Can I just say that I'd like Jacki Weaver's eyebrows to win this award for best portrayal suspended disbelief. But obviously, this one's going to Melissa Leo. Animated Feature Film “How to Train Your Dragon” Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois “The Illusionist” Sylvain Chomet “Toy Story 3” Lee Unkrich My Prediction: "Toy Story 3," duh! Documentary (Feature) “Exit through the Gift Shop” “Gasland” “Inside Job” “Restrepo” “Waste Land” My Prediction: Haven't seen any of these, haven't even seen the trailers, but I'm going with "Gasland" because I'm guessing it's about oil consumption and we always need at least one political speech at the awards. Foreign Language Film “Biutiful” Mexico “Dogtooth” Greece “In a Better World” Denmark “Incendies” Canada “Outside the Law (Hors-la-loi)” Algeria My Prediction: I feel bad because I haven't seen any of these, but the Globes vote for "In A Better World" so I'll go with that. Cinematography “Black Swan” “Inception” “The King's Speech” “The Social Network” “True Grit” My Prediction: Uhh... "The Social Network" or "True Grit"... "The Social Network" or "True Grit"... "The Social Network." Art Direction “Alice in Wonderland” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” “Inception” “The King's Speech” “True Grit” My Prediction: I'm having trouble deciding between "Inception" and "The King's Speech" but I'm going to go with "The King's Speech" because it was more actual art and less CGI. Costume Design “Alice in Wonderland” Colleen Atwood “I Am Love” Antonella Cannarozzi “The King's Speech” Jenny Beavan “The Tempest” Sandy Powell “True Grit” Mary Zophres My Prediction: Colleen Atwood for the triple crown in costume design! Film Editing “Black Swan” “The Fighter” “The King's Speech” “127 Hours” “The Social Network” My Prediction: If fucking "127 Hours" wins for that bullshit they call "editing" I will splice a bitch. It could go to "Black Swan" but honestly the editing helped shape the story of "The Social Network" so I'm going with Facebook. Visual Effects “Alice in Wonderland” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” “Hereafter” “Inception” “Iron Man 2” My Prediction: "Inception," I really feel like the rest of these nominations are a joke. Like, "Hey guys, let's make it impossible for 'Inception' to not win one award, oh wait, we don't like Chris Nolan, let's give it to 'Iron Man 2.'" Music (Original Score) “How to Train Your Dragon” John Powell “Inception” Hans Zimmer “The King's Speech” Alexandre Desplat “127 Hours” A.R. Rahman “The Social Network” Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross My Prediction: Toss up between "Inception" and "The Social Network." Can you believe Hans Zimmer has only won one Oscar?! Music (Original Song) “Coming Home” from “Country Strong” “I See the Light” from “Tangled” “If I Rise” from “127 Hours” “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3" My Prediction: OMG I want "Country Strong" to win so bad! Sound Editing “Inception” “Toy Story 3” “Tron: Legacy” “True Grit” “Unstoppable” My Prediction: Okay, so all the laser *pyew* *pyew* noises in "Tron: Legacy" were really awesome and I'd like it to win but I have a feeling this is going to "Inception." Possibly "True Grit," but just because I don't think it's going to win anything else. Sound Mixing “Inception” “The King's Speech” “Salt” “The Social Network” “True Grit” My Prediction: Pretty much the same for this, toss up between "Inception" and "True Grit."]]> https://www.radioactivecookies.com/oscar-watch-2011-missbleeckers-ironclad-winners-predictions/feed/ 0 2928 OSCAR WATCH 2011: The Hostesses With The Mostestes https://www.radioactivecookies.com/oscar-watch-2011-the-hostesses-with-the-mostestes/ https://www.radioactivecookies.com/oscar-watch-2011-the-hostesses-with-the-mostestes/#respond Mon, 29 Nov 2010 23:01:29 +0000 http://radioactivecookies.com/?p=2521 Continue reading OSCAR WATCH 2011: The Hostesses With The Mostestes ]]> It's that time of year again! And no I'm not talking about the time of year that elicits 8 white plastic trees, a 6-foot menorah and various twinkle lights in my office lobby (sorry kiddies Santa doesn't exist, and I'm a Scrooge.) However, one thing I won't say Bah Humbug to is my second favorite season of the year, Oscar Season! Yes, Oscar season has officially begun with the announcement of the hosts. That's two this year, congratulations to James Franco and Anne Hathaway two very young, very beautiful, very skilled actors who will both probably be nominated for their performances in 127 Hours and Love and Other Drugs respectfully, but probably not win. Here's the official statement from Oscar peeps:
James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons— fresh, exciting and multi-talented. We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27. We are completely thrilled that James and Anne will be joining forces with our brilliant creative team to do just that.
And so my dearies, while the snow piles up outside and you sit with your loved ones around a crackling fire, sipping cocoa I will be getting my $13 worth at my local movie theatre with the MissBleecker special aka buying a ticket for one movie and sneaking into several. Sorry Regal Movie Theatres but I have to see 10 movies which will be nominated for the 2011 Academy Awards and last year's endeavor of trying to watch them all over a weekend on my 13 inch computer was not much fun. But see them all I will and project the winners I will also, but talk like Yoda I will not (in future posts at least.) Last Oscars I did pretty damn good if you ungrateful bitches can't recall. So when the official list comes out and I force my eyes at a big screen for 12 hrs feasting on popcorn and Bunch-a-Crunch and then write a post so long and detailed you'd wish I hadn't, just know that it's all for you and not at all for the glory of gloating and being able to say on February 28th that I was right and you were wrong! Here's what she had to say about James Cameron losing to, ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow in the Oscars,
Jim didn't have breasts, and I think that was the reason. He should have taken home that Oscar. In the past, 'Avatar' would have won because they [Oscar voters] loved to hand out awards to big productions, like 'Ben-Hur.' Today it's fashionable to give the Oscar to a small movie that nobody saw.
That's right Sigourney, Jimmy Boy lost the Oscars because he has a penis. I don't know what we were thinking, I mean it's not like women have never been held back because of our genitalia! How rude! Sigourney is so right, we should definitely reward filmmakers for spending a lot of money on a big production, because really, that's what filmmaking is supposed to be about, right?! We shouldn't give awards to films nobody saw, even if they are far superior to Avafuckingtar, because that would be un-American and sexist! Thank you, Sigourney Weaver, for opening our eyes to the atrocities of the world!
The breasts that launched a thousand ships.

Bigelow made Oscar history tonight by being the first woman to ever win an Oscar for Best Directing. Not only did Bigelow cock slap ex Cameron with her history making win, but homegirl didn't even have time to get back to her seat before Tom Hanks did a driveby announcement of best picture. Seriously, that show was running a bit long but I didn't expect Tom to be so quick about it (just like a man.) Hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin joked that the show was so long "Avatar now takes place in the past." All in all, I think the Oscars really hit it on the nose this year. Yeah, it was corny and narcissistic, it's the Oscars! But the hosts hit some high notes, the skits were funny and the correct people won the correct awards. Here's to 2011 and hoping we have wonderful films this year! *shooting star* BTDubs, that last paragraph, totally going to be my audition piece for Oscar TelePrompTer (my spell check corrected it to this, why the weird caps?) Writer School! 😉 One more thing before I go... what a difference a decade makes. Jump to see how my predictions did. 10 1/2 out of 12, not too shabby if I don't say so myself! Each year the Oscars are a blood bath of designer gowns, divaness and reaction shots, and the Oscars 2010 are going to be the most epic bare knuckle fight EVER! For the first time, they don't have just 5 nominees, but 10! 10 movies! I had to watch 10 movies, including Avatar! I digress, we'll get to Avatar later. But yes, 10 films have been nominated for best picture. I'm still flabbergasted. And although the films themselves should be at the forefront of the race for Oscar gold, that's not even close to being the case. The Oscars 2010 is shaping up to be the biggest battle of the sexes ever! Kathryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker, and James Cameron, director of Avatar, previous 3 time Oscar winner for Titanic, are duking it out with the most nominations, 9 each. Their respective films represent exactly what the film industry is nowadays; a titanic director (pun intended) creates an epic work, loved the world over for technological advances but not story. Then we have a virtual unknown who makes waves out of ripples with her little film that could, which is pipelined with depth but had previously not been publicized well. However, that's not even the best of it, Bigelow and Cameron are exes. Yeah, they were married. The sun is shining a little brighter, the birds are beginning to chirp, the streets are filled with general merriment... well not if you live in New York, we've just been hit with cataclysmic snow. Regardless, it must be Oscar season! Aside from Halloween, Oscar season is my favorite time of year. And this is for several reasons; as a poor college student I probably don't get my movies from the most reliable sources, ie WatchMovies, check it out, best site ever! However, during Oscar seasons all the For Your Consideration screeners are online, which means, Oscar season is the only time of year you can watch good quality indie films online... for FREE! In addition, I love the fashion! I love to watch those bitches on E! bitch about each other, it's just great television! And you know there's always that one Bjork who thought it would be a good idea to wear a swan as a dress. God I wish Lady GaGa got an invitation! Anyway, digressing again, lastly, I love to watch the publicity battle over who's going to win, because, let's face it, the Oscars are not just an awards show, they are the crème de la crème of popularity contests. Let me paint you a little picture, imagine every popular person you ever met, and never met, got together and had a party celebrating each other. That's the Oscars! And oh do the claws come out! I just love watching as they announce the winners and then the losers have to make their loser faces, which we all know they've been practicing just as much as their acceptance speech. They can usually go a few ways, graceful, surprised, unaffected or "what the fuck?" I love the upsets! When someone feels they're a lock and loses I love to see the fury grow on their face! Does that make me a little sick? C'est la vie. Let's face it people, when a relationship ends, no matter how amicable or violent that final showdown was, we all want to win the breakup! Basically, whoever wins best picture wins the breakup. I bet the exact moment Bigelow wanted to knock Cameron off his high horse was when he accepted his best director Oscar for Titanic and gave the most narcissistic and corny tagline ever, "I'm the king of the world." Really Jim? Not cool. From that moment Bigelow said, "Hey I'm going to make a movie so awesome, that when hubby makes a huge splash, breaking every record known to man, I'm going to upstage him with, [comparatively] the least expensive piece of cinéma vérité ever!" And it looks like she just might! See video below for douchery. Visit YouTube for full video featuring the cast of Terminator. Bigelow and Cameron, both nominated for a total of 9 awards, are nominated 7 times in the same category. Bigelow nominated categories: leading actor, cinematography, directing, editing, original score, sound editing, sound mixing, original screenplay, best picture. Cameron nominated categories:art direction, cinematography, directing, editing, original score, sound editing, sound mixing, visual effects, best picture. Enough with the graphics, back to the goods. Bigelow is poised to deliver a big fuck you revenge package to ex Cameron and make Oscar history as the first female to ever win an Oscar for best directing. There have been only 3 other females nominated for best director: Lina Wertmuller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola. With Bigelow still hot from her BAFTA win she might be just the lady to bring it on home. She has the best chance out of any of the few female filmmakers to win the Oscar. However, Cameron, who has previously won the award, beat out Bigelow for the Golden Globe for best director. Usually the Oscars fall pretty much in line with the Globes, but always saves a few big awards for upsets, ie best director, as it might be this year, or best picture, ie the Brokeback Mountain/Crash fiasco of 2006. Don't even get me started! While the Oscars like to stay streamlined and predictable, they are still a show that is subject to ratings and therefore likes to save upsets for the end, so people will sit through the 17 hours of pontificating and lame jokes the hosts make. Which, this year, I hope is much better than previously, since we will have two hosts, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, two amazingly funny, if slightly aged comedians. However, since I did see It's Complicated, starring both, I feel like I kind of already saw this show and am not too keen on watching it again. I hated that movie, is basically what it comes down to. So, in the grand scheme of things, who am I rooting for? And before I answer this question, who I'm rooting for has nothing to do with who I think should win, except in this case I'd sooner watch a documentary about anthropologist Susan McKinley (do not click on that link, I'm warning you) than sit through Avatar again. Obviously, I'm rooting for Bigelow. It's about damn time a woman won an Oscar in a category women usually aren't nominated in. And I'm not saying, "Oh just because she's a woman she should win," it's true, she should, but she also deserves it. Her film is by far the best directed of the category. I almost feel bad because the Academy didn't really give her any competition. The director's category was clearly designed with Bigelow and Cameron in mind with Bigelow for the win. The Academy nominated directors who, while they had great films, are virtually on the radar since the For Your Consideration ads came out. They know they're not going to win, so why waste money on a 4 page front cover spread in Variety? Oh wait they did that for Meryl Streep and she has a snowball's chance in hell, I digress again, we'll get to Streep later. But yes, to conclude this paragraph Bigelow should and will win. Continue to Page 2 for Oscar Predictions. Side note: Cameron, ever the womanizer, with 5 wives, is currently married to the useless granddaughter from Titanic. Another side note: while the Oscars are one of my favorite things to watch on TV, my favorite thing about the Oscars is the "In Memoriam" portion, or as I like to refer to it as "The Dead Montage." You know the one, right around the 7th inning stretch they make everyone cry and go, "Oh my god, he/she's dead?!" Here's a gallery of Cameron, Bigelow, the useless granddaughter from Ttianic, The Hurt Locker Posters, Avatar Posters and more! For more information about the Oscars click here. Tune in, Sunday, March 7th at 8PM on ABC to view the 82nd Annual Academy Awards!]]> https://www.radioactivecookies.com/oscars-2010-the-biggest-battle-of-the-sexes-ever/feed/ 0 101
